Get to know Ms. Glad!
Hello! This is my 1st year at Pinewood, but my 7th year teaching elementary students! I taught Intervention Reading (grades 1-4) in Owatonna, MN for 1 year, then I spent the last 5 years teaching 3rd grade in St. Paul Public Schools. I went to University of Wisconsin-River Falls where I received my Elementary Education degree and minored in Science. I have always had a passion for science and love STEAM challenges! My husband and I live in Hugo, MN and love being so close to so many lakes. We have a golden retriever named Rosie, who we both adore. I love to spend time at my parents cabin in Wisconsin, going boating, taking walks, spend time with family and friends, and traveling!
I am so excited to be at Pinewood teaching Technology & Design and STEAM! It has been so much fun so far this year getting to know all of the amazing students and staff at Pinewood. Pinewood really does have the best of the best! I can't want to see all that we can accomplish this year together.
In Technology & Design, students will be working on not only typing and navigating a computer, but they will also be able to learn basic coding skills. We will be using programs on code.org and Scratch to learn how to make characters do and say things, and eventually how to make a working game to share with friends and family. Along with coding we will be learning how to use apps and programs to share what we have learned in a digital way. These skills are so important in our digital world!
STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math is another awesome part of my job. I am working in partnership with grade levels and teachers to bring STEAM into our student's classrooms. Every student in Pinewood will have the opportunity to work on STEAM challenges and projects this year. Students will work through a framework of planning, collaborating, designing, building, testing, revising, and sharing while working on a challenge. Students are taught that it is okay to make a mistake or not build the perfect model. STEAM is a learning opportunity where mistakes are learning opportunities and a chance to revise an idea.
